What are the benefits of joining the military?

What are the benefits of joining the army straight out of highschool.(I'm 16 now so I won't join until like 2 years) But what is the starting pay and other benefits. Do you live anywhere you want or on a base. What if you did bad in highschool and don't have a college to go to or a worthwhile job to go to.

  1. Now? Getting to die in a desert. How exotic.
  2. The tangible benefits: -- paycheck -- free healthcare -- free dental care -- job training -- job security -- education assistance (both in service and GI Bill) The intangible benefits: -- maximizing your potential -- service to country If you're single, you live in the barracks on post...but you can live offpost with the commander's permission if you pay for it yourself. If your married, you can live in base housing (no rent, and only pay for phone/cable/etc), or get Basic Allowance for Quarters to live offpost. Pay for a private (E-1) with less than 4 months in service is $1,203.90 / month.
  3. Low paying salary. Chance to get blown up by IED's. Come home with either severe depression or sucidal thoughts. Wanna join the military? The strong the brave the marines!
  4. There are many benefits like the GI Bill which pays for your college education, great medical benefits, making close friendships that will last a lifetime, building self confidence, pride in your job......Pay is not good in the beginning, but they will take care of you.
  5. If you start off as an E1 you'll make about 1178 a month. If you start off as an E2 it is like 1478. E3 is like 1549. You get all medical, dental and optical paid. They give you 30 days a year for paid leave. I was in a car accident. Not my fault. I got paid for the whole 1.5 months i was visiting my family recovering from the accident. one hospital bill was over 14,000. Army is paying for it. Army paid for me to drive my car from Ohio to Washington. You get one free cosmetic surgery such as boob job or face lift or lasic surgery. They pay for your housing. They pay u extra if you know a second language (except spanish). There is so much more too. Talk to a recruiter. Joining has been the best thing I have ever done. You get to pick ur job. You can pick where you're stationed but you won't necessarily get it. The army pays for any college that you do while active. They also give you between 40,000 and 70,000 for college to use within 10yrs after getting out. You can live off base or on base.
  6. ya im tryin to find out the same thing. (but im only 13:\) go to http://goarmy.com/ and u can find out more info. and if u did bad in high school, um, who cares? but um, if u want to join the military, its a good thing, even though u have a chance of dyin (not tryin 2 bring u down), but it WILL happen to somebody!
  7. Stay where u r son. With countless thousands of western politicians in the free and democratic world continually (and with no end in sight) supporting every kind of unelected Kings / heads of state, dictators warlords and raving ranting Islamic clerical perverts to die for their causes, instead of running them off (as we did Nazism, Communism and other evil societies bent on world domination) they and there vermin kind are not worth dieing for.
  8. Reasons to Join First ask yourself: Why do I want to join? If you can't answer this question, then you need to take the time to consider it carefully. There are thousands of good reasons to join the military, including: Answering the call to serve your country Taking a stand against terrorism Educational and monetary benefits that can last a lifetime Personal satisfaction and pride Family tradition Honor Devotion to duty Learning useful new skills Full-time employment Job security Personal improvement Whatever you decide, when you decide to join, be sure you have a good reason to do so. Military personnel admittedly do not earn fabulous salaries. But then the money is not why anyone joins - if you are after money, go somewhere else! That said, military members are rewarded with substantial tangible and intangible benefits.
  9. To me the best thing about joing right after high school is that if you make it a career, you will retire before you are 40. College money, being independent (not relying on my parents), serving my country. I have 6 years left and I will retire at 38 years old. If you are single 99% of the time you will live in the barracks in the Army. They are somewhat like college dorms. If you are married you live either in on post or off post housing. Being single you can live off post but it would have to be at your own expense. Starting monthly base pay for a single new soldier in 2007 E-1 less than 4 months Time in service 1203.90 E-1 with more than 4 months but less that 2years 1301.40 That doesnt seem like much but check out the link....it drastically increases the longer you are in service and of course with promotion.
