Government Bureaucracies Knowledge Base
What are the differences between government bureaucracies and the bureaucracies found in large corporations? I'm writing a paper for my american governemnt class, I have some ideas that I'm going to use, but I'm interested in hearing more opinions. The question is as follows What are the differences between government bureaucracies and the bureaucracies found in large corporations? How do they compare in terms of size and diversity of functions? What role does power play in each? How do expectations influence their respective behaviors? Thanx in advance for the input.
How can one successfully sue corrupt federal government bureaucracies? I am a handicapped woman forced out of subsidized housing by HUD refusing to police a corrupt state housing administrative agency. I have been unjustly homeless for over 4 years, even tho I was the proverbial "perfect tenant". I am currently a ProSe litigant suing both HUD and the Hawaii state housing agency. The "reality check" is that because both state and feds are guilty of violating my housing rights under the Fair Housing Act, they are playing it very dirty, even manufacturing fraudulent evidence and getting a HUD employee to commit perjury to strengthen their collective positions. HUD is hiding behind "sovereign immunity" which is totally unconstitutional, but which courts elsewhere have thus far upheld nevertheless, at least according to my research so far. I am learning that there is a whole different illusion of justice when a litigant is ProSe. I desperately need help to amend my federal complaint by July 14th or the judge will throw my case out of court!
Where do bureaucracies stand in our government? So, are bureaucracies in any particular branch in our government (executive, legislative, or judicial)? I'm just a little puzzled. Are they related to committees in any way? I feel like commitees and bureaucracies are the same thing? but I know they can't be. Whats the difference? Oh yeah, and the Cabinet too. Isn't that involved somehow?
Are our government and its attendant bureaucracies and enforcers of policy in an actual state of rebellion? If the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights are the supreme law of the land and the ruling powers, currently in their respective political offices and functional structures are making and enforcing policies and laws that are contrary to our Constitution and our Bill of rights, could we say they are in rebellion to our nation's supreme law. The ignorance or apathy of the majority citizenry, notwithstanding, is the predominant ruling class acting outside of our fundamental law or have we, as a nation, made null and void the Constitution and our Bill of rights? Just 'B' Free... good answer and cuts through the BS. Love the nom de plume :)
Who would be better at managing your health care, a profit driven CEO or a government bureaucrat? Anyone who believes in the illusion of "choice" with private insurance has never had a medical claim denied or been denied for a pre-existing condition. And we all know how efficient government bureaucracies are. Personally, I'm on the fence with this question. pdooma: The corporate HR gets a kickback from the insurers, that is why you only get a small selection. Samething with the 401k plan. If people had an actual "choice" there would be less profit involved for the company issuing the plan.
Why do we keep expanding Government Bureaucracies knowing that big Government is incompetent? I lived in Japan for a few years studying Japanese and went to college for a few years. I noticed something in Japan that I am afraid is going to infect the USA if we aren't careful. That is the far outreaching hands of Government Bureaucrats. Japanese politicians tend to whips when it comes to correcting the tax office or trying to cut down on careless medical expenses because Bureaucrats will not allow it to happen. Japan is in a financial rut now, because it has a huge aging population and the younger population have to pay for their pensions (uhmm sounds familiar?) I fear that the IRS, the FDA and other agencies in the US are getting too powerful that it could be Japan one day when politicians are afraid to confront them or try to fix the system because they've given them too much power.
Government homework help?! Bureaucracies? Which of the following statements about bureaucracies is FALSE? Choose one answer. a. Nothing better illustrates the complexity of modern government than its massive bureaucracies. d. Each bureaucratic agency is created by the president. e. How to manage and control bureaucracies is a central problem of democratic government.
Can government bureaucracy undermine our civil liberties? Do you think that the need to apply formally for a permit to peacefully protest limits our First Amendment Right to freedom of speech and freedom of assembly? When we must apply for the right to protest in our country, and the permits can and are frequently denied, is that not prior restraint on our First Amendment Rights? Isn't the ability of the government to control what, when, and where the People protest the definition of 'total power'? Julie S, your comment about the restoration of our full civil liberties being out of our means is saddening and frightful, although I see your point. Patrick Henry's speech to the Virginia Convention which ended with the phrase 'Give me Liberty or give me death' perfectly represents what I and all Americans should feel at the clear debasement of our true patriotism, which is to serve and defend our liberties. http://www.law.ou.edu/ushistory/henry.shtml The speech actually made me shiver when I saw the clear similarities between their historical situation and ours. 'Is life so dear or peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery?'
How much has government bureaucracy slowed the oil spill cleanup? Skimmers held up to count life jackets, berm construction delayed until permits are issued....on and on. Yeah, we need more regulations right? I love how liberals dodge the question. How much has the government slowed down the CLEAN UP? You drones. They are so tangled in the mounds of paper work and regulations that equipment just sits around instead of cleaning it up.
Is the Barangay effective as a government unit ? History books tells us that Barangays existed centuries ago. I am referring to the current Barangay - a government unit smaller than the municipal or city government. Does your barangay help your community ( how ? ) or is it just another layer in the government bureaucracy ? Thank you.
What things does the government do right? Ronald Reagan said the 9 more terrifying words we could hear was: I'm from the government and I'm here to help. Is there anything the government does well? Do we really need all this government bureaucracy? Isn't there a better way?
if Canada only has two official languages, why is government propaganda published in others? this is expensive and would be endless..people could speak several languages and because of multiculturalism, there would be a huge government bureaucracy to pay for this and it discourages people from living up to their obligation to learn the language...isn't it time immigrants accommodated the homeland's culture and not expect the homeland to accommodate their own?
Which of the following government organizations would you like to abolish? a.)The Department of Education b.)The Department of Homeland Security c.) The CIA d.) The IRS e.) FEMA f.) Military-Industrial Complex g.) Department of defense h.)Department of Justice i.)Department of Labor j.)Department of Energy There are tons of other government bureaucracies, I just don't have the time(or space) to list them all haha
Isn't there an alternate way to deal with government bureaucracy? I understand that Holland has a simple solution to the problem of bureaucratic growth. They don't have so many entitlement programs. They have unemployment. If someone is out of work, regardless of the reason, they draw unemployment. Seems like a simple solution for a people who trust each other to do the right thing, doesn't it?
Why do liberals want the government involved in the economy? Government is used to provide security to it's citizens, protect their rights, and defend their freedoms Why do liberals want them involved in education, unemployment rates, health care, housing, and other economical influences? Why do they like big government, when throughout history governments have always eventually failed? the thing that made our government stand apart was it's ability to let the people's ingenuity create wealth. It helped us grow rich and create a middle class. But now with all these government bureaucracies and wars overseas our government is destroying our wealth in it's efforts to make life better. It does the exact opposite of it's intentions and our middle class is dwindling look at how many departments there are, deportment of this, department of that...it costs a fortune to run all of these and it grows bigger every year I could make a counter argument for every one of your answers but I just dont have the time. Unfortunately your all wrong in you responses
The Federal Government is considered a bureaucracy primarily because it is what? The Federal Government is considered a bureaucracy primarily because it: a.was established according to the practice and tradition set by the Presidents as the fulfilled their executive functions. b.consists of many agencies that do not function very efficiently in the performance of their duties. c.is a complex organization based on certain principles. d.is headed by the President, who represents the main bureau, or office.
Why do liberals believe that Government programs are the only means of addressing poverty? Many liberals seem to believe any effort to cut a poverty-related program is hatred of the poor and abandoning Jesus' call to help the poor, the sick, the widow. Bush Republicans seem to think it is fine to cut taxes but not cut any government programs at all as well, but only because it ensures their re-election. But Jesus didn't advocate government programs to help the sick and poor, he didn't refer them to a bureaucracy. He provided direct relief, he treated them as persons. Charitable organizations, faith-based or secular, do a fine job of helping people, and better than the government. Why not support that structure instead of expecting a massive government bureaucracy siphon off aid dollars and provide inferior service and results? Jackson-I am not expecting INDUSTRY to solve those problems either. I am expecting churches and private aid associations to do so. They receive tax exemptions just for such a purpose, they should live up to that purpose. Steve-Absolutely it is especially not the Federal government's job to wage a "war on poverty." Although I will seem libertarian, which I am not, I do not support school prayer in public schools and do not think the government should certify or license any religous marriages (nor do I think persons married in the church should have to get marriage licenses from the civil authority).
Is Fear of Vaccines Really a Manifestation of Distrust of Government (or Bureaucracies In General)? chickenhawk Mike, you Have Paranoid Delusions About Vaccines, Perhaps you Need to Learn About Them. I Know how How the Flu Mutates, Apparently, you don't. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antigenic_shift And: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetic_recombination http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutation Thanks Tag, Sorry about your CHF, Besides Needing One Yourself, There is a Thing Called "Herd Immunity". chickenhawk Mike, I'm Not. chickenhawk Mike, I Doubt, you Would Feel Differently if you, or Someone you Love, Got the Flu. chickenhawk Mike, Real Flu, Probably Not. BTW, the U.S. Flu Shot has No Adjuvants, Just HAs and Vehicle. Yeah K, Sloth Again. OK Lock 'em all up!, Bring it, Do your Worst, Expect to Be Crushed. chickenhawk Mike, Many people Refer to a Cold as the "Flu", they Are Not the Same, Perhaps you Are One of Them. chickenhawk Mike, Yeah, but Never Bought. BTW, What Makes you Think I'm a Spokesman In Favor of Big Pharma? chickenhawk Mike, About "Cold" Vs "Flu", Very Similar to people Calling a Headache a "Migraine". Yeah million$gon I'm Wary of What Government or There Agents Say. But All Told, it's Not In a Vaccine Manufacturer Interests to Adulterate their Product: https://www.novartisvaccinesdirect.com/Fluvirin/FluvirinAbout [In my Estimation, the Manufacture Flu Vaccine is Antiquated and Slow.] one type B) that represent the influenza viruses likely to circulate during the annual flu season. The U.S. and Canadian governments (individually) determine annually which strains to include in the vaccine based on epidemiological studies and consultation with several groups including the World Health Organization. From MDConsult: Classification: Biologic Response Modifiers Vaccines NOTE: The 2009—2010 trivalent inactivated vaccine virus strains are A/Brisbane/59/2007 (H1N1)-like; A/Brisbane/10/2007 (H3N2)-like, and B/Brisbane/60/2008-like antigens. Full immune response requires only 2 weeks, so even as the flu season progresses through February, patients may still receive immunization. However, it is preferred that the influenza vaccine be given in October or November of each year. Description: Influenza virus vaccine is used to confer immunity against specific strains of influenza virus. The intramuscular influenza virus vaccine consists of inactivated virus particles prepared from the allantoic fluid of chick embryos inoculated with the influenza virus. Because influenza viruses are continually changing and antibody produced by the host in response to the vaccine diminishes over time, annual immunizations are required. The parenteral influenza vaccines contain 3 strains (two type A and I'm Sorry, the Above is Not In Order. WRT Lock 'em all up!'s A, I'm Reminded of a Quote: "it is a tale Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing.". It has Been my Experience, that These people Never Admit to a Mistake, and Often Compound their Error By Repeating it More Loudly, "Turn it Up to Eleven", Lock 'em all up!, Knows he has Been had. If big government and bureaucracy are created by laws? how do you reduce them and taxes by creating more moral laws that have a large cost to enforce? vindikat, there are only a few assumptions 1. that laws cost money to enforce 2. the government gets that money through taxation 3. moral laws are still laws that cost to enforce like any others, and in most cases more than most other laws to enforce.
Should and can America get rid of elitism in government? "Extreme taxation, excessive controls, oppressive government competition with business, frustrated minorities and forgotten Americans are not the products of free enterprise. They are the residue of centralized bureaucracy, of government by a self-anointed elite." Ronald Reagan
If you don't trust the government, why do you want the government to control healthcare and other services I always find it funny how people (especially Democrats) do not trust Bush/the government etc. and yet they want the government to control healthcare, welfare, etc. They are against privitization of social security, against school choice, against privitization of relief efforts (faith based initiatives) despite the fact that private organizations and competition have proved time and again to be more effective and efficient than the bloated government bureaucracy. How long have you waited in line at the DMV - and you want that to be what your hospitals are like?? The government can't even deliver the mail on time, and you entrust such a large percertage of your income to them, and you want government programs to increase? I hear rants all the time about government corruption and big money, and people in big business lobbyists pulling the strings without the consent of the people... so stop giving them so much money and support tax cuts and program cuts! Where is the logic? "A government is a body of people, usually, notably ungoverned." - Shepherd Book in Firefly
This might be a flaw in bureaucracies, but isn't it outweighed by the fact that there's some stability, that the bureaucracy fights for its own survival. (supposed flaw in bureaucracies is that: "a bureaucracy exists to support itself. it generally thrives best in government and military environments, where efficient management of money is not a priority. usually in those places the people working there are on fixed salaries with little chance of a raise. therefore they get their ego boost from being the boss of as many people as possible. every single cent in the yearly budget gets spent as fast as possible. then more money is requested. waste is extremely high. things are bought just because the money exists to buy them.") Without mechanisms like this, albeit flawed, quality would be at the whim of the office psychopath.
What are the purposes of a government? I was wondering what the purpose of government was; at it's complete core. What is government responsible for before policies and bureaucracy? The only things that I could come up with were security and the re-distribution of wealth. Are there any others you can think of? Remember on the large scale, for instance: Military, police, hospitals etc. are all in security.
The government is expanding and becoming more intrusive...are we on the path toward a communist police state? If every time there is a tragedy, the politicians and media work together to make sure that the government expands, civil liberties are taken away, taxes are raised, and new government agencies are created, we would end up living in a total communist police state society in 20 years. That is in fact what is happening now. Politicians and big media are exploiting every tragedy for profit and power. WE HAVE REMAINED A FREE CAPITALIST NATION FOR OVER 200 YEARS, AND I THINK WE CAN DO WITHOUT ALL OF THE GOVERNMENT BUREAUCRACIES AND POLICE STATE POLICIES THAT ARE CREATED EVERY TIME THERE IS A TRADGEDY. We don't need more taxes (especially the middle class). We just need to make sure the government spends the money they already get from us ON THE RIGHT THINGS, instead of wasting it on imperialist wars (12 BILLION a MONTH FOR THE IRAQ WAR), and all of the government programs that do very little good for our country. "A government big enough to supply you with everything you need is a government big enough to take away everything that you have.... The course of history shows that as the government grows, liberty decreases." Thomas Jefferson "The true danger is when Liberty is nibbled away, for expedients and by parts.... The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men do nothing." Edmund Burke "It is seldom that any Liberty is lost all at once." David Hugh "The main political problem is how to prevent police powers from becoming tyrannical. This is the meaning of all struggles for Liberty." Ludwig Von Mises "Freedom has cost too much blood and agony to be relinquished at the cheap price of rhetoric." Thomas Sowell "America was established not to create wealth but to realize a vision, to realize an ideal-to discover and maintain liberty among men." Woodrow Wilson "We will never be through with our fight for Liberty, because their will always be people who do not want the responsibility of freedom, and the will always be people who will gladly take that responsibility away from them, for the power it brings." N. Scott Mills "If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." Samuel Adams "Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger." Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials
